How to choose your wedding makeup artist

Your makeup artist is one of the first people you will see on your wedding morning, and one of the last you will hug before you walk down the aisle. Choosing her is about more than pretty photos. Here is what to look for.

1. Look for real brides, not only editorials

Styled shoots are beautiful, but real wedding photos tell you how the makeup holds up through tears, hugs and a long day in the sun. Ask to see full galleries, not only the best close-ups.

2. Ask about the trial

A good artist will always offer a trial. It is where you test the look, the lashes and the skin prep, and where you find out if you feel comfortable together.

Trials are where we design your look together.

3. Check the timeline

How many people can she take care of, and how many artists does she bring? A calm wedding morning depends on a realistic schedule, with the bride always going last so her makeup is the freshest.

4. The question most brides forget

Ask what happens after the makeup is done. Does she stay for photos? Leave a touch-up kit? Come back for an evening look? These little details make the whole day feel cared for.

The right artist makes you feel calm the moment she walks in the door.

When you find her, book early. Most of my brides reserve their date eight to twelve months ahead, especially for summer Saturdays.
